Bentley Green

Community Orchard & Wildflower Meadow

Bentley Green is a community project to transform the site of the Old Recreation Ground into a welcoming green space for people and nature.

The idea began with a small group of local residents who believed this underused site could become something much more valuable for the village: a place that supports wildlife, brings people together, and creates something future generations can enjoy and take pride in.

Following community consultation, wildlife surveys, and ecological assessment work, the Parish Council agreed that the project could move forward. The new name, Bentley Green, reflects both the site’s history and its future as a shared space for the whole village.

Our vision

A welcoming, community-led green space where nature thrives, people connect, and future generations learn, grow, and take pride in their local environment. Bentley Green will blend orchard, wildlife habitat, and shared space to support nature, wellbeing, and community.

What we hope Bentley Green will become

Bentley Green is being developed as a space with more than one purpose. It will be somewhere people can enjoy, but also somewhere that actively supports biodiversity and community life.

At a high level, the vision includes:

  • a long-term community asset shaped by local people
  • a community orchard
  • improved habitat for wildlife
  • space for quiet enjoyment and connection with nature
  • opportunities for learning, volunteering, and local involvement

A project for the community

Bentley Green will only succeed if it is community-led. That means creating opportunities for people to get involved in ways that suit their time, skills, and interests, whether that is helping with practical work, supporting events and education, sharing expertise, or joining the wider group helping shape the future of the site.
